What are Clips?
Clips let you grab the best moments from a live room and share them. If something great gets said in a room — a funny line, a sharp take, a moment worth remembering — you can capture just that piece, give it a title, and share it to your profile, the house page, the Clips feed, or straight out to Instagram Stories, TikTok, Snapchat, and more.
Think of it as pulling the highlight out of the full replay so it's easy to watch and easy to pass along.
Who can make a Clip?
Anyone in a room can make a Clip, as long as:
- The room is public and the host has replays turned on
- For more on replays, see here.
- The host has Clips turned on for that room
- You're not browsing anonymously (you'll need to switch out of anon mode first)
Right now, making and viewing Clips is available on iPhone, in English, for US rooms. We're starting here so we can get the experience right before bringing it to more places.
Do hosts have to turn Clips on?
Yes. Only the host can turn Clips on or off, either when they're setting up the room or while it's live. Clips also depend on replays being on — if replays are off, Clips can't be turned on either, since a Clip is pulled from that same recording.
When Clips are on, anyone in the room will see a note letting them know the room is being recorded and that short Clips can be shared from it.
How do I make a Clip?
While you're in a live room:
- Tap the Clip icon.
- You'll see the last few minutes of the conversation as text. Tap to select the part you want — you can adjust the start and end points until it's just right.
- Preview the audio to make sure it sounds good.
- Add a title (or let us suggest one for you based on what was said).
- Tap Share.
How long can a Clip be?
A Clip needs to be at least 5 seconds, and can run up to 55 seconds. As you're selecting your moment, you'll see how much room you have left so you don't go over.
Where do Clips show up?
Once you share a Clip, it can appear in a few places:
- The Clips feed, where people can discover new Clips
- Your profile, if you were a speaker in it
- The house page, if the room belonged to a house
- Wherever you choose to share it outside Clubhouse (Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, and more)
Does everyone in the Clip get notified?
Yes. If you're a speaker in a Clip that gets shared, you'll get a notification letting you know — and you can tap it to go watch. If the room belongs to a house, the house admins get a heads-up too. You won't be notified for every single Clip made from a busy room, just enough to keep you in the loop without overwhelming you.
Can I say thanks to someone who clipped me?
Yep. If you're featured in a Clip, you'll have the option to send a quick thanks to whoever made it. It's a nice way to show appreciation when someone captures a moment you're proud of.
What happens after I hit Share?
Before your Clip goes live, we run a quick check to make sure the content is appropriate. Most Clips pass right away and post normally. On the rare occasion something doesn't pass, it just won't be shared — no big scene, it simply won't post.
Can I download a Clip or share it outside Clubhouse?
Yes. You can download a Clip that you have made to your phone, or share it directly to apps like Instagram and TikTok. It'll take a few seconds to prepare the video, and you'll get a heads-up once it's ready.
What if I don’t want to be recorded?
Room creators decide whether to turn on Replays and Clips in public rooms. If you don’t want to be recorded, you should not participate in public rooms where Replays or Clips are turned on.
Can I prevent myself from appearing in Clips?
Again, if you don’t want to be recorded, you should not participate in rooms where Replays or Clips are turned on. If you don’t want to be identified as a speaker in a Clip, you can adjust your settings. If you choose to hide your user info for Clips:
- Other users in public Replay rooms may create Clips that will include things you say
- You'll show up anonymously in any Clip someone tries to make while you're speaking
- You won't get notifications about being featured in a Clip
- You won't have a Clips section on your profile
Hiding this information, however, does not exclude you from following the Community Guidelines and you can still be reported and actioned for violative content. For more, see our Privacy Policy.
Can I remove a Clip I'm in from my profile?
You can hide any Clip you're featured in from showing on your profile. This doesn't delete the Clip from Clubhouse entirely — it just removes it from your profile view. House admins can do the same for Clips tied to their house page. To remove a clip from your profile, go to your profile page; under your bio, you will see Clips. Tap “view all / manage” and you can remove any clips you have made or that feature you from your profile.
How can I report a Clip?
Clips go through a quick check to ensure content is appropriate, but rarely, something may be missed. If you encounter a Clip that contains a violation of our Community Guidelines, you can report it using the 3-dot (...) menu in the upper right hand side of the clip.
If a Clip contains violations of our Community Guidelines, or is being shared in a way that’s intended to harm any Clubhouse community members, it may be removed by Clubhouse’s Trust & Safety team.
How can I delete a Clip?
Currently, Clips can’t be deleted once they are published. We’re working to add this feature soon.
What is the Clips feed?
It's a dedicated space for browsing Clips — a bit like a highlight reel of Clubhouse's best moments. You'll mostly see Clips from people you follow, houses you're part of, and other Clips that are relevant to you, roughly newest first. From there you can react, follow speakers, join houses, or share what you find.
Can I react to a Clip?
Yes — you can send a reaction - premium or standard - to a Clip much like you would in a live room. Double-tapping a Clip sends a quick heart, or you can open the reaction menu for more options. If you send a paid reaction, the speaker will be notified
Is Clips available on Android?
Not yet. For now, making and fully interacting with Clips is an iPhone-only experience. We want to nail the experience there first before expanding.
